The Sweetest Things.
Love this West Village cafe created by Marlo Scott who was kicked out of the corporate world only to find her calling and get her Sweet Revenge. Did I mention they have cupcake, wine and beer pairings? Oh, I didn't? THEY HAVE CUPCAKE, WINE AND BEER PAIRINGS! It simply doesn't get any sweeter than that. Take the time to read Marlo's story which proves that failure can have a keen sense of irony, you know what they say? "When a door shuts...

Apron Love.
Check out Anthropologie's stunning selection of aprons. Lulu's partial to the Baker's Delight & Parisian Cafe. Who says kitchen time can't be fancy, flirty and fun!
Calling all Guidos and Guidettes.
Already being called the junk food version of a Coppola movie, Jersey Shore is MTV's latest train wreck of a reality show and has quickly become Lulu's next guilty pleasure. It doesn't get any raunchier than this: orange tans, bad tattoos, enough Ed Hardy to make you puke and more machismo (including the girls) than four walls should be able to hold.
Follow a mob of immoral, undisciplined 20 somethings around the boardwalk of Seaside Heights during a summer of debauchery, chaos and pure stupidity. There really is no redeeming quality about this series except for the laugh factor (and that there is plenty of) and for moi, nostalgia. I grew up on that boardwalk so it's worth sifting through the unforgivable garbage to see a shot of the East Pier ferris wheel or West Pier roller coaster. New Jersey, we dont pump our gas, we pump our fists (notice the pic). Fa-get-aboud-it.

Bulbs in Winter.
Love this post over at Design Sponge on Paper Whites. Great, inexpensive Holiday gift to give. If you plant them in a sunny window soon they should be almost bloomin' by Christmas. Add an interesting vase from the thrift store to the mix and you've got a win/win present to present.

Tote-ally!
Really love this doily tote bag idea via Ashley Ann. All you need to execute is a tote bag (3 bucks at Hobby Lobby) a doily, adhesive spary and fabric paint. Fill with a few themed items to match your giftee's lifestyle (cooking utencils for the cook, gardening supplies for the gardener) and you've got a custom, thoughtful gift that shows you took the time to care. I'll tote to that!

Go Willie, Go!
Our Whippet is famous! Kinda, he's going to be in a kid's dog book. Above is a pic from his photo shoot, such a looker! Now if I could just get those pesky pugs to start working, we'd be set for life. Check out the author's website here.

Columbus day and Lulu just finished 200 cupcakes for tomorrow's All Glammed Up event for Dress for Success. Come and get your fashionista on and help a lady get back in to the work force. Cupcakes for a cause, as Martha would say, that's a good thing. Good cause, good peeps.

Louis the what?
Love this illustration by Julia Rothman, no longer do you need to confuse your Louis XVI with your Louis XV.
It's time to start shopping for a Holiday dress. Okay, I just wanted to post this because I love the heavily carved moulding wood work. The dress, meh.

Tis the season.
Fall is here in all its golden glory. With Halloween goblins and ghouls, pumpkins and gourds, football and more football. Surely Ohio farmers are putting their beds to bed for a long winters rest, and farmers markets are closing their shutters for the season. Nope, not in downtown Columbus.
Although the outdoor Pearl Market wraps up its season this Friday, the indoor Winter Pearl Market will come right in on its heels. Thanks to a grant from the US Department of Agriculture’s Farmer Market Promotional Program, Capital Crossroad SID has extended Pearl Market’s season through February. It’s an idea that came from vendors and shoppers alike, who told Pearl Market staff that they would like to continue selling and shopping. So more Market they shall have.
Starting next Tuesday, you can shop each Tuesday and Friday from 10:30 am – 2 pm on the first floor of 20 E. Broad Street. Approximately 34 vendors will be there with their wonderful good and local produce (yes, it’s all still local – mostly grown in greenhouses), baked goods, meats, cheeses, oils, syrup, jams, eggs, soaps, jewelry, sweaters, bags, dog-friendly items, and much more. There will also be an art gallery produced by the Create Columbus Commission and a Holiday Marketplace with gift items. Also new for the indoor Market, customers can shop with the Ohio Direction Card (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program/Food Stamps). The season for shopping never ends.

Cupcakes to go.
Spent part of the day looking for cupcake trucks. Here's a couple of possibilities in the area...insert imagination here. Both are from the 70's which rings great with my vintage side, just not ringing so loud with my restoration and maintenance side. The search continues.

Gotta love Wisconsin...here's a post from January 08 that I love to go back to for cheese and giggles.
Confused about what cheese to serve at your next dinner party? Consult The Cheese Cupid, an interactive site that pairs your chosen poision with it's perfect curded soul mate. Whether it's a Beaujolais, Riesling, Stout or Madeira one click will not only give you many cheesey choices but a brief history, flavor description and what kind of bread, cracker or fruit to serve it with. So pair that Merlot with a creamy Havarti and serve it with confidence. The Cheese Cupid has you covered.

A hero with a hero (and an Airstream).
Enter Freshbox Catering , a Columbus based, boxed-lunch catering service (the brain child of Joe DeLoss) that delivers to downtown businesses during the lunch time rush and donates all of it's profits to the Faith Mission. Lulu calls that catering with a conscience; OH and yummy to the tummy, check out the ingredient combo in just one of these bad boys:
November Turkey-Fresh sliced turkey with greens, a hint of rosemary, provolone, tomato and cranberry chutney. Enough said.
So, next time you have an o-so-important staff meeting, a client to impress or just a special day at the office, kill two birds with one sandwich and order from Freshbox. Your tastebuds, your staff members and your moral compass will thank you. Also check out Joe's Airstream restoration project (I know, don't get me started, that's a whole nutha blog).

Life, love and what we ate.
Sorry for the slow blogage, Lulu hosted a 40th bday party yesterday. Must share a recipe that was a hit, very easy to prepare and also easy on the budget. The Blushing Hostess Entertain's Gorgonzola bread which I paired with thinly sliced pieces of beef shoulders (much cheaper than a tenderloin-$8.99 for two) but just as delish if you marinade (I used a chipotle raspberry sauce) and cook on the rare side. Pile the beef on top of the baguette slices and drizzle the gorgonzola cream over all for open-faced bite size goodness...yum.
